Poll for the New Recognized Chess Variant of Fall 2004
This poll is for adding a new game to our list of recognized chess variants. It will be the new addition for the autumn season of 2004. The winner of this poll will be added to the list, and it will subsequently become a candidate in polls for selecting the recognized variant of the month. Here are the candidates:
- Cavalier Chess
- One of the games chosen for the 2003 Multivariant PBEM Tournament.
- Chess on a Longer Board with a few Pieces Added
- One of the games chosen for the 2003 Multivariant PBEM Tournament.
- Courier Chess
- This game is an interesting look at the historical development of the modern game of chess, as it includes both the archaic and modern forms of the bishop, and contains the Ferz rather than a modern Queen, thus suggesting that the modern Bishop's move was 'invented' first. In addition, according to these pages' entry for the game, the game was played widely throughout Germany during the Middle Ages, although it later died out (in favor of the modern game, I would assume). The game is very playable and would make a sensible addition to the Recognized list, in my opinion. -- Jared B. McComb
- Crazyhouse
- Crazyhouse can be played at the four major online chess servers (ICC, FICS, US ChessLive, Chess.net) and has been available at each of the above sites for many years. It is extremely popular at each site and is an excellent game and deserves to be mentioned. -- Ed Collins
- Dark Chess
- This chess variant can be played on 3 game servers (BrainKing, SchemingMind and ItsYourTurn) and is a quite popular. I personally consider it the best chess variant with incomplete information, with elegant rules and more interesting to play then Kriegspiel. -- Andreas Kaufmann.
- Hostage Chess
- It's an outstanding modification of the idea of drops to fit a standard chess set. David Pritchard called it the variant of the decade for the 1990s; he may well be right. -- Glenn Overby II
- Rococo
- One of the games chosen for the 2003 Multivariant PBEM Tournament.
- ximeracak.
