Troitzky Chess

This page contains one or more presets for playing a game online with Game Courier, an online server for playing Chess variants by correspondence.

Troitzky Chess, invented by Paul Byway.

Inspired by a remark of the end-game study analyst Troitzky that checkmate by two knights is possible if you add two extra squares to the board behind each back rank.

All pieces move as they do in standard chess. Pawns promote on the farthest square of whatever file they are on.

In the Byway setup, castling is by king swapping places with an adjacent rook.
In the Jelliss setup, where all pawns are protected, castling is not allowed.

These presets do not enforce any rules.
