Game Courier Tournament #3. Vote for which games should be in the third Game Courier tournament.[All Comments] [Add Comment or Rating]It is not mandatory, but you may if you choose to, especially if you're eager to play more games.
FYI, Fergus, Greg Strong and I are planning to play Modern Shatranj instead of the slated Cannons of Chesstonia (a name that still hasn't been corrected on the sheet from Cannons of Estonians). - JG

'White has a large advantage. White's advantage is reduced in BALANCED AVALANCHE CHESS in which White had no pawn push on the first move.' Given this remark by Avalanche Chess inventor Ralph Betza, I'd agree that would only be fair.
Just to let you know, my game with Todor has ended. A majority of the 17 or 18 players are now free for the second round.
BALANCED AVALANCHE CHESS sounds like it might be a good idea. Apparently I no longer have an opponent for this particular chess variant.

PROPOSAL: We start the second round now, for all players. After June 15, any player with only one game going in this tournament starts a second game. [EDIT] Yes, we need to consider the 4 players still engaged in round one.
David, I really want to object to part of your proposal since I am still very much involved in my first game and nobody else who finished their first game had the same pressure of starting a second game while finishing their first. However, I would be willing to sign on to your June 15th proposal. So while I object to the first part, I am willing to compromise by signing on to the second.
[added later: Also, of course I don't mind if people start their second games while I am still working on completing my first.]

yeah, four games at a time was fine. the time controls are pretty generous.
Get the next round started, for crying out loud. Jeremy has 23 active games, is averaging one single move every 4 days in his first round game, and wants to play one game at a time. Estimated time of completion of the tournament? Let's see, 19 games times roughly 2 months ... summer of 2010? My proposal (Proposal '2 every 3') Rounds 2 and 3 should commence by the end of May, with 2 new rounds beginning every 3 weeks. That'll get this thing wound up near the end of the year. All are welcome to refrain from playing in other games (or at least fewer than 23 other games) if unable to find time to focus on their tournament games. Let's play 2! Support proposal 2 every 3!!

Juan Rodriguez, you are both right and wrong. Mr. Jeremy Good does face you in his next round. However, your next round match is actually against Uri Bruck. Your match vs. Jeremy Good is your 3rd match. It may be possible for you to play both the match versus Uri Bruck and the match versus Jeremy Good at the same time, if it is agreed that we can handle more than one match at a time. Vote yes on Proposal 2 every 3!

There seems to be general agreement that each of us should be playing two games by June 15. Let's make it happen! Right now, most of us are playing zero games.
Jeremy, you're right, you did agree to be playing 2 games at a time from and after June 15th. But still, at the pace it's going, we're looking at sometime in 2009. Maybe I'm just a little anxious to play b/c I got thrashed in a short number of days in my first round game. Vote Yes on Proposal 2 every 3!
I did not have any say over the time controls or rate of games to be played or launching of tournament or continuity of games and I don't wish to be cited as a cause in the delay of further games being played. Perhaps my request regarding the first round was unreasonable.
I vote yes to your proposal.
