I propose a piece which I dub Stag Unicorn (will change the name if it's already taken).
Every time a move is made in the bishop direction, an optional knight move can be played - if bishop is moving right, it can do (has the option of doing) an additional knight move according to the pattern described below....
Let me try using the compass rose to describe this piece. In the diagram below, ferz travels to NW1, NE1, SW1, SE1; Alfil travels to NW2, NE2, SE2 and SW2. Wazir to W01, S01, NO1, E01; Dababa to W02, N02, S02 and E02. Knight travels to NNW, NWW, SWW, SSW, SSE, SEE, NEE and NNE.
NW2 NNW N02 NNE NE2
NWW NW1 N01 NE1 NEE
W02 W01 SUN E01 E02
SWW SW1 S01 SE1 SEE
SW2 SSW S02 SSE SE2
The stag unicorn is a bishop which can make an additional (optional) knight move in one of two directions along its route. If he is traveling NorthWest (NW), he can make an additional knight move to either NNE or SWW. Traveling NE, he can move to NNW or SEE. Traveling SE, he can move NEE or SSE. Traveling SW, he can move to SSE or NWW.
In the diagram below, this is illustrated with the numbers 1 for the first square (the ferz square) it has the option of going to and 2 for the second square it Stag Unicorn has the option of going to:
b o o n o n o o b o
o b o o 2 o o b o o
o o 2 o o o 2 o o n
n o o 1 o 1 o o n o
o 2 o o B o o 2 o o
n o o 1 o 1 o o n o
o o 2 o o o 2 o o n
o b o o 2 o o b o o
Note: Stag unicorn must be able to travel first to the bishop square before traveling on to the knight square.
Anyone familiar with this piece? Has it already been invented?
