I think this game really captures the spirit of Shou Dou Qi but is much
more playable. I like the moderate amount of randomness--small enough
that you can take it into account in your tactical calculations. On the
skill vs. luck spectrum Mouse and Elephant will be closer to Chess than to
Backgammon--an area of that spectrum not often seen in board games (other
than wargames).
I also love the mutual Queen capture as draw condition. Personally I
think Chess-like games should have the possibility of a draw, though it
should not be overly frequent. Were it possible to design CV's with this
level of precision, I would like odds of 45-45-10 best.
