Hi,Claudio. In my opinion optimal setup it means symmetry in all cases as a chess is symmetric by the nature. Good example Classical Chess,1.Setup-White-Black, 2.White or Black (right and left flanks),3.Pawns protection,4.Pieces density, 50% free squares and 50% non-free (Capablanca chess 8x10,Classic Chess8x8 and so on).For a board 10x10 if we use 25 pieces from each side(then 50% pieces density) the setup will be not symmetrical and increasing quantity of pieces for exp. 28-30 from each side will increase duration of a game and positions to become too heavy and I think 48%-52% pieces density is okey in this case. For exp. L.Smith`s Demon Chess -48%, Samarcanda Chess -52%, Opulent Chess -48% and so on.
