Piececlopedia: Zebrarider
Historical notes
The zebrarider is a `riding' variant of the Zebra, a fairly well known fairy chess piece. The zebrarider is used only occasionally in fairy chess problems. For a game piece, it may be less suitable - perhaps for variants on very big boards?
Movement
The zebrarider is a (2,3)-rider, i.e., it can make a series of jumps in the same direction, always going either two horizontally and three vertically, or two vertically and three horizontally. In other words: it can make a zebra move; when the square it visits is empty, it can continue with addtional zebra moves in exactly the same direction.Movement diagram
In the diagram (on a 10 by 10 board) below, the zebrarider on a1 can move to all the squares marked with a white circle, and it can capture the black rook (which blocks its further movement in that direction, hence the zebrarider cannot go to i7.)
This is an item in the Piececlopedia: an overview of different (fairy) chess pieces.
