Because it is there!
When I wrote my book (in French) 'Guide des échecs exotiques et insolites' in 1999, I gave the rules of Tai Shogi (do you know other games book that gives those rules?), I mentioned Taikyoku Shogi as an unbelievable tale. And here it is!
That is huge! Great pics. I tried the link, but since I don't understand Japanese, all I could get from it is that it looks like it's some 400$ for this set. It does seem fair considering the quantity, but who's going to play this, honestly?
I would!!! What a great game! Large board war games are fantastic! Taikyoku seems to have some range jumpers like in Tenjiku, so the game could come to a sudden end, as well... I just wouldnt want to put the board together every time I wanted to play... that'd take a couple hours...
If someone could help me figure out how to order this thing in japanese that would be great.
This is the kind of game that I would want to spend weeks or months playing (a single game, with many adjournments; obviously requiring a lot of commitment from both players). It would be more practical to play with pieces that didn't require any memorization. Perhaps I'll eventually design such a set (and print them in 3D).
