There just isn't any usable or understandable here. Maybe pictures of completed boards would help.

I never built one. 

I have had other comments (by email) from ppl who did undrstand the
description and were able to picture it; but don't worry. My experience
in life is that somebody who is deficient in one ability is usually
compensated by a surplus of some other ability.

to all those who can't visualize the '8x8x8 board' concept, and need 'pictures', probably don't need to play chess anyway . being as visualization is a useful tool in seeing more than 1 move ahead in a standard chess game. think of a 'cube' and figure out yourselves how to play chess with it...duh.
