Hi Ben
Just at a glance, there's some pretty seedy stuff on the internet relating to this type of variant. One such variant's rule set I saw somewhere on the net first noted that playing such variants may be illegal in some nations, and so first issued a disclaimer against the playing of them there. Other websites recommend this type of variant for newlyweds, which is the most wholesome use for them (besides the playing of them by married people in general). Some of the rules and strategies for such variants are unique to them, and it's a bit unfortunate concerns about moral issues make these variants rather hot to handle for any family oriented website.
P.S.: I found links for just 2 of the 3 applets that you mentioned, with some digging. I would add that I once saw a website claiming to put forth the 'official' rules for strip chess, but the rules offered seemed tedious at times, IMHO. With only a little thought I imagined more appealing alternative rules (IMHO) in a number of cases. Naturally countless other chess variants than standard chess might be converted to strip variants, at least if solely intended for adult viewing.

Kevin Pacey brought up this variant in comments elsewhere. We actually do have three pages here on the subject; all three are Friedlander java applets playing variants of it. Unlike ((almost?) all?) of Ed's applets, these three have not been given itemIDs (are not in the database). This is an odd situation, and makes me think perhaps Kevin is right that someone earlier made the decision to not include them in the database(?).
