10x10 Boards[Subject Thread] [Add Response]

John's way ahead of me, i was about to post the same thing. we couldn't find anything, i couldn't even find anything overseas - except the grandchess board on freeling's site, which, altho nice looking, is very expensive and has huge shipping charges.
there was also the 12x12 quantum board, but i never saved the money to get a set, and reportedly the company no longer exists.
george hodges sells vinyl 7x7, 9x9, 11x11, 12x12, 15x15, 17x17, 19x19 and 25x25, but again he is transatlantic and not inexpensive, and additionally the boards are uncheckered.
i have found almost nothing on ebay either.
i am mostly interested in a 10x10 for use with the exchess pieces. i hope to eventually make my own tile boards similar to the ones tony quintilla made, but it may be awhile before i have the time or the money to do this, and i'm not sure how well mine will come out. and i'm still interested in wood boards and exploring all options.

Perhaps you might consider buying an Omega Chess set
(http://www.omegachess.com), which uses a 10x10 board with extra corner
squares which could be ignored for the 10x10 gaes you want to play.

Ben Good wrote on Mon, Sep 2, 2002 08:44 PM UTC:
Thanks, but i have an omegachess set. we're looking for something considerably nicer than the omegachess board, which is made out of cardboard and has a cut halfway through so that it can fold into quarters. it would not do the exchess pieces justice.

Ben Good wrote on Mon, Sep 2, 2002 09:13 PM UTC:
btw, i am also aware that the commercial variant 'roman chess' comes with a vinyl 10x10 board. it looks pretty nice, but the set is also $70, which seems rather high, especially considering that the design of the additional piece is one of the most uncreative pieces i've ever seen.
sorry, looks like we have gotten into a discussion here that's become completely unrelated to the page we're actually posting it to.

Try the International CV Board:

I already posted this in the 'piece sets' discussion, but
boards like the one in the photograph, used to be quite common
here when I bought it 30 years ago. One side is 8x8 for Chess,
the other (shown here) is 10x10 for draughts. Material is dark
and light wood, presumably glued to a single big substrate.

This board is available now in the 21st century!

Sadly, 'international draughts' boards seem to be non-existent here in
the US, let alone nice ones. I've looked, but I need to search in
European languages to find them. I can get by in German, and get the gist
of Dutch, but that's it. And then the shipping charges...Ugh!
Another possibility is a Grand Chess board
http://www.mindsports.nl/DownLoad/Noware/GrandChess.html
but the shipping is still appalling. And it has to be a nice wood board,
because I already have a 10x10 board made by my daughter as a craft
project for Christmas, and I can't just use any vinyl board instead.
I may end up with one of the vinyl boards anyway, because they are reasonable and shipped from Canada, which is much cheaper.

Here are some fairly decent wooden ones:

Here you can buy 10x10 (and also 12x12) draughts sets.

The site is in French out of Quebec, Canada.

The 'Royal Dutch Draughts Union' offers two kinds of boards for sale on their website:
The one below is the cheaper one (€20,-). From the picture it is a bit difficult to see,
but ik looks like the chequering is really brought about by two different colors of wood,
and not by painting of the white squares. (A technique that is standard here for
cheap boards of ~€10. The other board they list is €25, and described as having edgeless
(No picture, though. Prices excluding shipping and import charges.)

I did some shopping at the drugstore the other week, and to my surprise they
were also selling chess/draughts boards (one side 8x8, the other 10x10). I
could not detect what material the boards themelves were made off (perhaps
plywood, or some compressed wood-fibre material), as the chequering and
texture seemed to be printed on top of it, perhapson some glued-on foil.
There was a wooden rim around the board.

Price: €3,-

I figure Europe carries them. However, with the States, it is 'Good
luck'. Game companies rather put Backgammon on the other side, instead
of a larger board.

@ HG Muller: Please can you provide the web address for Royal Dutch
Draughts Union as I cannot seem to find it. Many thanks.

H. G. Muller wrote on Tue, Jul 27, 2010 07:25 PM UTC:
I guess you would want to be here. I am afraid it is all in Dutch. But
perhaps Google translate will do some good.

Anyway:
Dammen = draughts
Dambord = 10x10 checkered board
Damschijven = draughts chips

Ah, ok - thanks. I'll work something out. Cheers.

I've recently found 10x10 boards being sold on Amazon.ca by searching "10x10 Draughts", fwiw.

Note to Fergus:

I've tried listing All Messages for this (10x10 Boards) subject thread on the Comments Page, but I get to see only my previous post in this subject thread. It is the same way for another subject thread when I tried to list All Messages for it, too.

My Amazon.ca affiliate account expired after six months, because no one ever made a purchase through it. But my Amazon.com affiliate account has been doing better, and I added a 10x10 Checkers board to the Featured Items in the CVP Amazon store.

I've tried listing All Messages for this (10x10 Boards) subject thread on the Comments Page, but I get to see only my previous post in this subject thread. It is the same way for another subject thread when I tried to list All Messages for it, too.

That's what's going to happen when you start a new subject thread that no one else has posted to yet. I searched the database for comments with the subjects "10x10 Boards" and "Chess Pieces" and found only comments by you.

Kevin Pacey wrote on Sun, Jul 31, 2016 06:17 PM UTC:

That's strange, Fergus. I replied to existing subject threads, which I found by clicking on "List All Subjects" on the Comments page. Fwiw, now I see there's even two "10x10 Boards" threads listed.

🕸Fergus Duniho wrote on Sun, Jul 31, 2016 07:09 PM UTC:

The previous comments in the 10x10 Boards subject have an ItemID of "10x10 Boards" and an empty Subject field, while the new comments have an ItemID of 14fd03b60f176582 and a subject field of "10x10 Boards". This is due to a reprogramming I did of subject comments to allow subject lines longer than the default length for ItemIDs. But I did not go through the Comment table and update the values of ItemID and Subject for old comments.
