'You may not move into check.' is the message I get when trying to enter Black's fourth move, using the move pieces by yourself option in the new Shatranj PBM Preset. The move in question was copied from an old ZRF of mine:
<p>alf-chaturanga.zrf VariantName=Shatranj 1. Pawn h2 - h3 1. Pawn a7 - a6 2. Pawn h3 - h4 2. Knight b8 - c6 3. Chariot h1 - h3 3. Elephant c8 - e6 4. Chariot h3 - f3 4. King d8 - c8 (NOTE: I get the error message for both 'k d8-c8' and the plain 'd8-c8')
This Shatranj error message seems to pop up whenever the Black King is 'attacked' by a Black Elephant. For example, 1... e7-e6 and 2... d8-e7 and 3... e7-d6 also results in a 'You may not move into check.' message.
Please ignore this comment. It was misplaced.
The King was being attacked by itself, because the code for identifying attacks from the enemy King was in the wrong case. This is now fixed.
The code for White Elephant attacks on Black was also in the wrong case. This and the other bug were due to copying and pasting the same code without making appropriate corrections. Both bugs are now fixed.
If a preset has the 'exclude pieces not in set' box checked, nothing I do seems to clear it. If I uncheck it, and test, update, or save, the box is still checked.
When I submit my moves today, I get this message, even though the move is sent: Warning: copy(/home/chessvar/public_html/play/pbmlogs/(...)/(omitted)-cvgameroom-2005-32-111.bak): failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/chessvar/public_html/play/pbm/write_log.php on line 9 Warning: Failed to copy /home/chessvar/public_html/play/pbmlogs/(...)chess/(omitted)-cvgameroom-2005-32-111.php to /home/chessvar/public_html/play/pbmlogs/(...)/(omitted)-cvgameroom-2005-32-111.bak Warning: chmod(): Operation not permitted in /home/chessvar/public_html/play/pbm/write_log.php on line 52 Warning: touch(): Utime failed: Permission denied in /home/chessvar/public_html/play/pbm/write_log.php on line 53 *** Is there some work being done on the log?
We are currently experiencing some site issues, which hopefully will be resolved soon. Please be patient. Thanks!
I assume the site issues are behind this, since I have not made any recent changes to the code. It does not seem to be affecting anything critical. Moves can still be made, but backups aren't being created, and the time of the last move isn't being kept up to date on the What's New page. I am going to wait and see if the problem clears up when the site gets back to normal.
Since our current site problems have not stopped old images from being deleted from the temp directory, I have added a line to delete the backup file before copying the log to a new backup file. If this works, then I may also delete the log before writing a new log. Hopefully, this will get things working right again.

No, Fergus. Forget babelfish or other mechanized translators. They give horrible translations. The Spanish you put is quite bad (not your fault, the translator's. They don't work)
White playing <a href='http://play.chessvariants.org/pbm/play.php?game=Xaigo2&settings=Xaigo2'>Xaigo</a> in solitaire mode, I got a error of 30 second time limit for PHP script. To make it faster you could store the current position on the hidden field on the form, and also make the program reset the time limit to 30sec after each move, but storing the position on the form would make it go much faster!
Going over PHP's 30 second time limit normally indicates a bug in the GAME Code program, usually an infinite loop. Try debugging your code. Storing the position on the form would have little effect on speed, since automation and checking the legality of moves doesn't really take that long. The only thing I've tried that is really time consuming is checking for checkmate and stalemate, which both involve trying out alternate moves. So I normally put code for this in the Post-Game sections, so that it gets done only at the end of a series of moves. As for resetting the time limit, I don't think that's doable. It is a built-in feature of PHP, which Game Courier is written in, not of Game Courier itself.
My checking-for-check (not checking for checkmate or stalemate) presets for Chess on a Longer Board with a few pieces added and Maxima managed to reach the 30-second time limit within 40 moves (from each side). I had to limit myself to move-checking presets which do not check for check. (Anyway, the checking-for-check preset for Maxima also has bugs which are related to baroque capture and the form of the board, and whose resolution would require even more time from Game Courier).
To both Antoine and A. Black, I have looked at Antoine's Maxima code and at A. Black's Xaigo code, and both could use some optimizing. Antoine, I suspect you could optimize much of your code by using functions instead of long series of conditionals. For example, I used to use long series of conditionals to check for check, but then I added the ability to use functions and could then check for check with a single line of code. A. Black, I've noticed that you could optimize your code a bit by using the match command in place of or-ing == conditions. In general, I recommend becoming more familiar with the new commands, functions, and capabilities I not too long ago added to GAME Code. Knowing how to best use them will help you write more efficient code. As someone who cut his programming teeth on an 8k Vic 20, my programming mantra has always been optimize.
You should have a image set for Japanese Kana, both hiragana and katakana, like a piece is KA or ka can be red and blue and put KA+ and ka+ to change hiragana and katakana mode.
Look at the Kana entry on Wikipedia to see what is Japanese Kana.
See http://www.chessvariants.org/index/msdisplay.php?itemid=MSjapanesekanaic for a list of all the icons, their names, and information how you can add them to Game Courier
I see some foreign characters there (Japanese Kanji?), but I'm not going to do the hard work of making pieces from them. If you want pieces for this game, make them yourself, then email me a zip file containing the completely finished pieces. For use with Game Courier, make sure each piece is a transparent GIF, and make the transparent color green, specifically #00FF00.

These symbols are Japanese Kana, not Kanji. And I will make the images when I have time and send them to you.
