There is a new World FIDE Chess Champion. May be you don´t know who is him. Well, it is normal, anybody knows who is him, except, perhaps, a reduced number of people. His name is Rustam Kazimdzhanov, of Uzbekistan, a Grand Master with little credentials, and an ELO not very impressive. Surprisingly, he beated Michael Adams 4.5-3.5 in the final match. Hiroshi Nakamura played very well, demolishing some very strong adversaries, but he was beated by Michael Adams in eighths of finals...
Personally, I don't think the FIDE world chess champion has been the world chess champion since Kasparov. Vladimir Kramnik, as far as I am concerned (and Yassir Seirawan agrees) is the current world chess champion.
