Grande Acedrex. Missing description[All Comments] [Add Comment or Rating]

I've tried making a rules enforcing preset for this game. https://www.chessvariants.com/play/pbm/play.php?game=Grande+Acedrex&settings=rules-enforcing

If it's working right, could it be added to this page?

Can a King also make Knight jumps in Grant Acedrex?

That's something I wasn't sure about so I just included it. I removed it now

According to Jean‐Louis' site the king can make an initial two‐square radial leap

Edit: just took a look at the code and saw that those are already there and the question was about knight leaps in addition to those. But yeah there seems to be no indication that those are available

@ Editors: would it be possible to place the link indicated by Daniel Zacharias in the comments below, in the alphabetical index for Grant Acedrex Courier Preset, instead of the one which is currently present because the latter has no enforced rules.

@Daniel Zacharias: some suggestions for your preset of Grant Acedrex:

  • it seems that the initial double step of the Pawn is not implemented. It should be corrected. Note that the en-passant rule was not existing for this game.

  • I would replace the Bishop by a Crocodile and the Unicorn by a Rhinoceros in order to cope with the original codex illustration. However, using your icons with Bishop and Unicorn is not wrong either.

  • I have made a page called Grant Acedrex presenting the rules that your preset is playing. You could correct the link. Also, maybe, you could change the title of the present page for Grant instead of Grande, in order to be consistent (and accurate).

I was not aware of that. I was going by the rules you have written. I want to get it right so I'll try to fix it.

I don't think I can change the title though, someone else will have to.

The reason for the piece images is that I copied whatever was in the previous non-enforcing preset.

@Daniel:

  • Good point, I had not seen this rule was missing on my description on my own site. Yes, the Pawn is said to follow the rules at normal chess (of the time) which are given upper in the codex. So, all Pawns may do a double step (most probably not leaping). The peculiarity is that right stops after the first capture made by a Pawn (of the same color or of any color, this is not said). I guess this limitation occurs rarely and might be ignored. What is sure is that in-passing capture was not known.

  • Don't change the title. If my page "Grant Acedrex" is accepted, I will make another "Grant Acedrex" page for the Game Courier that I will link with your preset.

  • For the piece images, do as you prefer. It can be understood that Crocodile=Bishop and Rhino=Unicorn.
