All capture by men and knights is custodial, and the havens are in the corners. If the standard could not capture by replacement, it could never occupy a haven and win. For the central hills, well, variety is the spice of life.
Why can't it capture Infantry in the Hills and Havens also?
;-) They can't be there. From the rules: 'Infantry may not land on any Hill or Haven square...'
I think they should be able to land there, but also be able to be captured by replacement. Why is there this distinction?
The non-entry of infantry to hills and havens is taken from the rules of Tafl. The cavalry were designed to be more mobile and so were not restricted in the same way. By way of compensation (game balance?) infantry are the only pieces allowed to use the bridges.
