I wanted to check on the status of the tournament being played here with Shogi, Western Chess, and XiangQi--is there a link to games played, and tournament status? It began February 18th.

David Paulowich wrote on Wed, Mar 29, 2006 09:35 PM UTC:
Just type *Shogi* in the Tournament Filter and 'Anytime' and 'Any Games' in the other filters. This is the only tournament with the word Shogi in its name.

I created two logs for Losing Chess, which don't work because I entered comments into one of the code fields by mistake. The problem is I can't delete them. If Fergus or another editor could delete them, I'd appreciate it.

It's done.

I registered for a user ID to play games on the chess variants courier yesterday, and the message said I would receive an e-mail with a temporary password shortly. I haven't gotten a reply yet in 24 hours. How long does it typically take for confirmation? Also, when I tried to follow the links for technical support I found they are mostly disabled, is there a reason for this, or is it due to lack of maintenance? Is there an easier way to become a registered user?

Does anyone want to play a game of 4-Way Chess with four players? Partner's sit accross from each other and all the rules of regular chess apply. Email me at [email protected] if you're interested and we can arrange a game when we get 4 players interested. You can be partner's with a friend here if you know someone.

Russian.

Fergus, can you resign the players who haven't made a move in 4 months in these games? Let's make a rule, if you don't make a move in 100 days you lose.

Jeremy Good wrote on Fri, Aug 4, 2006 11:30 AM UTC:
I second Stephen's proposal.

Stephen Stockman wrote on Fri, Aug 4, 2006 11:37 AM UTC:
well, the world 4-way chess championship is off to a rocky start jeremy, i guess its between u and me for the championship, lol

James Spratt wrote on Mon, Aug 7, 2006 06:05 AM UTC:
Stephen, that's a great idea--if you don't make a move in 100 days, you lose. (That's a lot kinder than what I was thinking.) They should be included in a player's percentile rating, too. There's already an etiquette recommendation against unilaterally terminating a game; I think it's just as rude to just wander off and not bother to finish one. 'Tain't sportin.

There are already time controls. If you want players who take too long to move to lose, make sure to set up time controls when you invite people to play games, and refuse to accept invitations for games without time controls.

I see three Janus Chess games; the one Stephen has is still open and no one has taken the challenge, according to the logs. Remember: Making a move has two steps, verifying the move, and then confirming the move.
