This is worse than Xiang-Qi, because the rules of Xiang-Qi that you removed is supposed to be in Xiang-Qi, is make Xiang-Qi good! Still, it is good as a non-Xiang-qi.game Another game which fixes the problem of weak pieces (by adding another weak piece!) is Para-Xiang-Qi!

You should have a image set for Japanese Kana, both hiragana and katakana, like a piece is KA or ka can be red and blue and put KA+ and ka+ to change hiragana and katakana mode.

Look at the Kana entry on Wikipedia to see what is Japanese Kana.

I see some foreign characters there (Japanese Kanji?), but I'm not going to do the hard work of making pieces from them. If you want pieces for this game, make them yourself, then email me a zip file containing the completely finished pieces. For use with Game Courier, make sure each piece is a transparent GIF, and make the transparent color green, specifically #00FF00.

These symbols are Japanese Kana, not Kanji. And I will make the images when I have time and send them to you.

I also think that the arrows should be extended to the center of the squares

I like this game. Has anyone played against someone else what thing you see is good in this game? Maybe another way to do is play until one player has a certain number of points. Maybe you should get more points for attacking the queen.

This game has not very many pieces maybe you could use drop like in Shogi. You should also mark the river right on the board so you can see it.

I've always thought the best implementation of ratings would be an 'open-source' approach: make public the raw data that go into calculating the ratings, and allow many people to set up their own algorithms for processing the data into ratings. So users would have a 'Duniho rating' and a 'FIDE rating' and 'McGillicuddy rating' and so on. Then users could choose to pay attention to whichever rating they think is most significant. Over time, studies would become available as to which ratings most accurately predict the outcomes of games, and certain ratings would outcompete others: a free market of ideas.
I also like the open-source approach (maybe make the raw data XML, plain-text, or both), but there should also be one built-in to this site as well, so if you don't have your own implementation you can view your own.

Xorix Shogi. Shogi where piece movement are XORed with captured pieces. (9x9, Cells: 81) [All Comments] [Add Comment or Rating]

Zillions and Game Courier are good to make many kinds of Chess Variants, but not this one. I will probably create a program using QBASIC, PHP, or something else, to demonstrate how it works, play against myself, and other people.

O, and later I will try game myself before posting, to make sure is good, against other people to make sure the rule are clear, etc. Some of the games I posted I actually did try, but not all. Later I will do try before post. Thanks for your suggestion!

Also, about the interpretation of the rules, it is like a Flying-Chariot/Rook capturing a Fragrant-Chariot/Lance now moves like a rook but not more than one space forward, a Angle-Mover/Bishop capturing a piece moving like a queen turns into a rook (bishop XOR queen = rook). So what you said is correct.

All pieces other than the King can promote. Promoting really just changes the piece type (except if the piece already has that power). This is because the pieces can change so often, the promotion rule had to be changed from normal Shogi.

Also, the promotion happens after capturing and is optional unless it couldn't move from where it is standing (like in Shogi). Also, all pieces can always move one space straight forward, no matter what other power it has or doesn't have (the Honored-Horse and Angle-Mover start move more powerful than how they do in Shogi).

Bishogi. An attempt to take the FIDE army further towards Shogi than Chessgi does. (8x8, Cells: 64) [All Comments] [Add Comment or Rating]

'Bi' in Japanese does mean something. It means beauty, written ”ü by kanji (ideograph)or ‚Ñ by kana (sound). The symbol ƒr is also the sound 'bi' in katakana but normally katakana isn't used for native Japanese words. If you want it to mean beauty, you might want to use the kanji, if you do not want it to mean beauty, you should probably use kana (hiragana or katakana, probably katakana).

You probably can't buy a set specificaly for this game. You can play using a normal chess set (if the top of the rook is flat, which it usually is).

On some pages, such as the Xorix Shogi page, there are problems with entering HTML code and getting it back wrong when trying to edit it. If I give an example here, this page will also get messed up, so I won't. You can use the htmlspecialchars PHP function anywhere where a TEXTAREA tag is returned, to make sure it doesn't replace entities incorrectly and mess up when entering a ending textarea tag.

The play.php (in any mode) should output a BASE tag as well so that if you save it to your computer, it will appear correct.

I have done a temporary fix but it will stop working when this comment falls off the bottom of the page, so you need to include it directly in this page for it to work permanently.

Here is another chess problems from Martin Gardner:

[1] Both king's knights missing and black's queen's pawn forward 2 spaces.

[2] All four knights missing and black's queen's pawn forward 2 spaces.

Can you solve any of these?
