bug in the preset? i can't castle... thanks in advance.
There should be a subdirectory called 'images' and then subdirectories under that for the different piece sets. Ok, I checked that and that's right. the images are in subds under images, they're not out in the main directory. maybe i still don't get it. is there something else that i can try and fix?
for me: glinskis hexagonal chess omega chess templar chess time travel chess capablanca random chess modern shatranj
fergus or antoine, if you want to show me or tell me how to set up the games and send them out to people, i'll do it.
jeremy, what happened with that? if the tournament is indefinitely on hold, is anyone interested in an alternative, less formal tournament in the meantime? maybe based on one inventor's games? someone with a bunch of games to choose from - gifford/duniho/lavieri for example.
As a user noted, and is stated in many BEGINNER chess books: Castling is a special move undertaken by both the rook and king, the sole purpose of being able to meet the following: Tuck the king away in a corner (either kingside or queenside) so that it is AWAY from the center and (in most cases) safe from hostile activity. Centralize the rooks so that they can be brought to action along the center files d1 (d8) and f1 (f8).
Fischer's castling rules satisfy the above requirements, while the proposed suggestion is completely illogical and should be discarded.
Many people seem to have a problem with Castling and stalemate rules. Think of castling as moving the king to a special bunker to hide from attack and think of stalemate as the king committing suicide so that your opponent cannot claim to have killed it (which is the objective of the game - to kill the king).
let's do it. i only just realized you can do it all from the preset page. i just trialed setting up a new tournament round and then assigning a game between jejujeju-carlos. seemed to work. simple. what's the word from fergus? is antoine around? what are we going to do then? 1/ continue with tournament 3, anyone who doesn't move simply loses on time and that's that. withdrawals from the tournament also means you lose all your remaining games (only option, isn't it?). are most people still around? 2/ start a new tournament (established games). 3/ joe's BYO idea. i'm willing to assign games. i vote 1 or 2. i don't have any games to bring!
how about this? i'll get two games going for everyone (except sam and fergus) after work today. i'll use the same time controls we used for round 1, and the games will be rated. is that cool?
i just assigned the game between adrian and sam as a test to see if it would come up under the right filters when you search on the logs page and the ratings page. this seemed to work. i know that sam is not playing anymore. if adrian moves, sam will presumably time out and it will be logged as a victory for adrian. sorry, sam, for the automatic loss. i'm sure you don't mind too much.
joe/david/whoever, the ratings page is a good way to keep track of results. however... joe has a victory over fergus. everyone else gains a victory over fergus by default (right?). but these victories won't show up on the logs page (they will never be played/won). there might be more examples of this if any of the question marks don't compete from round 2 on. assigning a bunch of dead games (like the one i just assigned between adrian and sam) doesn't seem like a good answer because those players would lose all the games for the (unofficial) ratings page if they ever return. also a waste of time, although it's doable. does anyone know how to get into this 'game courier tournament #3' page and color in the squares in the chart from time to time to keep it updated? other solutions? just wait till the end?
reminder for people playing avalanche chess: White has a large advantage. White's advantage is reduced in BALANCED AVALANCHE CHESS in which White had no pawn push on the first move.
